Site: San Rafael, California

Using a consistent program of a single family house similar to a typical housing development, what is the impact of climate on architecture if the structure:
— minimizes its energy use
— uses appropriate architectural vernacular to meet climatic shelter needs instead of artificial heating and cooling
— uses architectural vernacular to meld into the existing community

Three test sites in different climates were chosen:
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Minneapolis, Minnesota
San Rafael, California
